Calorie blockers are very interesting natural substances. These active substances can to some extent prevent the breakdown of carbohydrates and fats. They are usually only used to a lesser extent by the food you eat.

Because they inhibit the digestion of certain foods, they have the opposite effect to digestive enzymes, so care should be taken not to use them continuously.

One such calorie-blocker is chitosan, a complex carbohydrate, a deacylated form of insect chitin, but also found in the cell walls of many fungi. Chitosan is able to inhibit the pancreatic fat-breaking enzyme (lipase enzyme). This means that only part of the fatty acids ingested from food are used as energy.

White kidney bean extract prevents the utilisation of carbohydrates by inhibiting the enzyme alpha-amylase. Alpha amylase is responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars. In this way, white kidney bean extract also stabilises blood sugar levels. Consequently, it does not inhibit the utilisation of ingested sugar, only that of starch (sources: rice, maize, potatoes, whole grains, etc.)

In addition, white kidney bean extract also has appetite suppressing effects. And appetite suppressants can prevent overeating, thus supporting the diet. The most effective appetite suppressant is dietary fibre, if you do not get enough fibre from your diet you should supplement with it, but make sure you drink plenty (3-4 litres a day).
